PAEDIACTRIC FIRST AID
1 DAY COURSE
This One-day course covers the role of the Paediatric First Aider, A good instruction for people working with Children and Babies.
The Primary Survey can be called an initial assessment, which must be carried out irrespective of the incident you are confronted with. Things can be vitally different when you are dealing with a young child or baby, especially as babies can’t tell you what’s wrong.
Secondary assessment, once you establish your casualty is breathing normally, this will help finding out what is potentially wrong with the child/baby so the correct treatment can be given. This could be anything from talking to them gaining more information or placing them into the recovery position. Young children may be reluctant on giving out too much information so trying to bond with them maybe a good start.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). An In depth look at the respiratory and circulationary system and how it differs in children and babies and how we can attempt to get it working again. The difference in settings on the AED and the difference in pad placement.
Seizures (convulsions) what causes them and the different types. What to do to a child/baby suffering from a convulsion or fit.
Airway obstruction or chocking. This can be quite common in young children and babies. The signs and how to deal with them
Wounds and bleeds, the different types of wounds children especially may suffer from and how we can we can treat the various types. Wounds can range from grazes to amputation. We also look at shock, which occurs through loss off fluids from the body and the importance of preventing it.
Finally, we look at the different types of bites and stings that children/babies can suffer from, including animal bites as well as insects and fish.
