MENTAL HEALTH  FIRST AID

3 LEVEL COURSE

A course to provide learners with the appropriate tools and information to support a person with a suspected mental health condition

There are three parts to this course:

Level 1 is a Mental Health awareness and is a 4-hour input, this gives people an insight into mental Health conditions.

Level 2 is a One day 6-hour input Mental Health course; this is a full day input covering a vast range of Mental Health conditions and how to assist the person and would be classed as the main course.

Level 3 is a two day Supervising Mental Health; this would be for a person(s) who have completed the day 1 and would be a point of contact for any Level 1 or Level 2 persons.

We look at what is Mental Health? And identifying Mental Health Conditions, providing advice and starting a conversation

We look at and cover stress, what causes it and the signs and symptoms.

We cover drugs and alcohol; it’s uses by people and the dangers of ‘self-medicating’ and how it can make people feel worse.

After looking at Mental Health in the workplace, we cover and look at an important part of this the Action Plan for Mental Health, this is an important part on how to help people and encourage and reassure them

Depression is quite a large subject and we look at it in a lot of detail as quite a large amount of people will suffer depression in their life and some people will suffer long term. We look at causes and ways to manage it.

Anxiety is a normal body response that people can suffer from, but some people can have Anxiety longer term because of this like phobias. We look at how we can help.

Courses: Courses & Programs

If you think of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) I would suggest straight away, you would link it with military personal. This isn’t the case at all, and it can affect 1 in 3 people depending on any traumatic event they are involved in. PTSD is classed as a form of anxiety.

There are many parts to self-harm, we look at signs of self-harm and how we can help somebody who self-harm’s as this could potentially lead on too much more serious conditions.

Suicide, we cover indicators of that may suggest somebody maybe contemplating suicide. How we could help discourage them and people they can talk to, for example the Samaritans.

Eating disorders, you always think of young females, but eating disorders can affect many people. Eating disorders can include overeating as well, as not eating. We look at signs and symptoms of eating disorders and how we can go about helping.

Personality Disorders, we look at the different types and causes as well as Bipolar disorder, Psychosis and Schizophrenia.
